I have to tell you right now that I am very excited to talk about this book. So be prepared for the amount of spoilers underway. I highly recommend reading Recursion first before reading this post as this will be a full length discussion of the novel.

Turning Back the Page to the Golden Age of Hollywood: Book Recommendations Inspired by the Upcoming Netflix Limited Series "Hollywood"

When we think of Hollywood we often tend to think about it during its Golden Age. It was a glamorous time when the movies really soared from its silent era heydays to talkies and beyond, and the celluloid dream of making it big in Tinsel Town was the American Dream. Of course with any time period not everything was perfect despite its beautiful veneer. Women were treated differently let alone people of a different color or race. Yet in spite of it all you cannot help but feel nostalgic of the promise of the era. 

With all that said you can imagine my enthusiasm when the trailer for the upcoming Netflix Limited Series, Hollywood, created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan was released. In this new series, we are transported to Hollywood's Golden Age but with a twist in its retelling of history seen through the perspectives of a couple of young hopefuls with a dream.

Beware Young Girls Who Come to the Door | Lock Every Door by Riley Sager

As we approach Day 8903 or something like that of this lockdown, I thought it would be fun to read a thriller this time around. Thrillers are actually the perfect genre of escapism and are oddly fitting right now during this current time. There is a bit of mystery and suspense that are enough to make your day suddenly exciting. By the end it will only make you hungry for more, to which you can go and order some more thrillers from your local independent bookstore. So, you are not only satisfying yourself, you are also helping small businesses - seems like a win-win to me.

The thriller I chose to read was Lock Every Door by Riley Sager, which I actually picked as my July 2019 selection from Book of the Month. It was a quick read that felt like watching a horror movie. My immediate thought after finishing it was "Damn - that was insane!" but in a good way. If you are looking for a book that is filled with intriguing but mysterious characters with a plot that could have been straight out of an Alfred Hitchcock film, then you are in for a real treat.
